Revelation 9:13-21, "And the sixth angel sounded, and I heard a voice from the four horns of the golden altar which is before God, Saying to the sixth angel which had the trumpet, Loose the four angels which are bound in the great river Euphrates. And the four angels were loosed, which were prepared for an hour, and a day, and a month, and a year, for to slay the third part of men. And the number of the army of the horsemen were two hundred thousand thousand: and I heard the number of them. And thus I saw the horses in the vision, and them that sat on them, having breastplates of fire, and of jacinth, and brimstone: and the heads of the horses were as the heads of lions; and out of their mouths issued fire and smoke and brimstone. By these three was the third part of men killed, by the fire, and by the smoke, and by the brimstone, which issued out of their mouths. For their power is in their mouth, and in their tails: for their tails were like unto serpents, and had heads, and with them they do hurt. And the rest of the men which were not killed by these plagues yet repented not of the works of their hands, that they should not worship devils, and idols of gold, and silver, and brass, and stone, and of wood: which neither can see, nor hear, nor walk: Neither repented they of their murders, nor of their sorceries, nor of their fornication, nor of their thefts."

SIXTH TRUMPET
The golden altar that is mentioned in this passage is the altar of incense, which sits in the holy place immediately before the ark of the testimony. Easton's Bible Dictionary gives the following definition of the golden altar.
(2.) The altar of incense (Ex. 30:1-10), called also "the golden altar" (39:38; Num. 4:11), stood in the holy place "before the vail that is by the ark of the testimony." On this altar sweet spices were continually burned with fire taken from the brazen altar. The morning and the evening services were commenced by the high priest offering incense on this altar. The burning of the incense was a type of prayer (Ps. 141:2; Rev. 5:8; 8:3, 4).
The voice that commands the sixth angel to sound is one of many unidentified voices mentioned in the book of Revelation. It is described as coming from the horns of the golden altar. Metaphorically speaking a horn signifies strength (Deut. 33:17) and honor (Job 16:15, Lam. 2:3). Horns are emblems of power, dominion, glory and fierceness. As stated above, the burning of incense on the golden altar was a type of prayer. The question remains, from whom did the prayer come?
When the fifth seal was opened the martyrs are described as being at the foot of the altar. They petitioned God by saying in Revelation 6:10, "How long, O Lord, holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth?" They were told to rest and wait patiently until the number should be complete of their fellow servants and their brethren who were to be killed as they themselves had been for their testimony. It must be concluded then that the voices that release the four bound angels who in turn lead the 200 million demon possessed men army are the voices of those who have been martyred for their testimony of Jesus Christ.
The voices of the martyrs commands the sixth trumpet angel to liberate the four angels that are bound at the great river Euphrates. Since these angels are bound it is reasonable to assume that they are demon princes Ephesians 6:12, "For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places."
These four rulers will then take control of a vast army of demonic horsemen. The number of this demonic horde is 200 million. Each of the rulers will take control of 50 million troops and each will go in one of the four main compass directions from the river Euphrates.
The people of the earth having been tormented for five months by the stings of the demon locusts will have reached their weakest point ever. Satan now comes in like a flood and completely overwhelms the world. With an army of 200 million demon/men the four demon princes will take control of the world by force. This demonic horde may indeed take over the world even in the guise of peacekeepers.
Even in their weakened condition many people will try to stand against this flood only to be swept away and die. This army of demons will indeed be powerful, but there is one army, which is to come later that is even more powerful. This is the army of the Lord described by the prophet Joel.
Some would say that the army spoken of by the Joel in chapter 2 is the demonic army described above. This cannot be because it is the Lord Jesus Christ who is in charge of the army that Joel writes about not the four demon rulers. Also, Joel is writing about the day of the Lord. The day of the Lord is when the Lord Jesus returns with his followers. This event is a full three and a half years and seven bowls of wrath into the future from this point.
